This is our new patio, which has made all the difference to our adventures in basement suite living. The suite has direct access to the backyard, which we have never really used before - we have a large deck for outdoor living upstairs and I have been very happy to completely ignore the backyard. It is overgrown and hasn't been looked after for years. It truly needs a complete overhaul and about $10,000 worth of landscaping but that just isn't going to happen. So we cleaned it up, cut all the growth back and had this cute little patio built.
It's perfect for sitting and reading the newspaper in the morning...and enjoying the afternoon sun with a G&T. It is also great for entertaining and I've already had a couple of small, but intimate dinners there. I know I had sworn off entertaining for year but what the heck, it's summer so oh so casual.
This photo was taken by my friend Penny, we were sitting out enjoying a glass of wine under the umbrella looking at her photos of Italy (she and her husband just got back from a 3-week trip). Note the sexy straw hat Penny bought herself - very trendy, leaning against her stunning orange leather bag from Italy which beautifully matched my orange cushions on my Adirondack chairs...also on trend (but from Homesense, not from Italy).
The large blue gift bag holds a lovely red leather bag from Italy - a gift from Penny for my birthday - thank you Penny, the leather is delicious.
Looks like I got my wish, the days are cooler (although my office isn't), we've had some rain so things don't look quite so desperately dry....and even my husband said he felt fall in the air.
I love this time of year and will continue to use my patio for weeks, maybe wrapped in a blanket...but I can watch the Garry Oaks rustle in the breeze.
We have a few weeks of patio life yet - enjoy!
