February 22, 2010 - Ebay is a magical place. You can find anything you want there ...but the wicked witch often snatches it out of your hand just when you think it is yours!
I have been browsing Ebay for about two weeks now, what fun! So far I have ordered five things, each between $25 and $40 so not a huge amount of money, and each I got because I was able to "buy it now". In other words, I have not yet "won" anything in a bidding war.
I have tried. At least 10 Coach bags...several Eileen Fisher jackets...some of them I was down to the last second, and they slipped out of my hand (so to speak) as an Ebay pro whipped their bid in at the last moment, faster than you could hit send...some I abandoned early on as the prices went up and up and clearly I was in over my head.
The saving grace is that when I have reacted recklessly, somebody has outbid me anyway so I haven't wound up with something I paid way too much for.
and it is a huge time waster. It must rival facebook for the amount of time you spend doing nothing but looking (like the amount of time you spend on facebook, catching up with highschool friends you never cared about, looking at photos of their family vacations and marvelling about how much they have changed).
So far I have received three vintage scarves, very very inexpensive (less than $10 each) and lovely to have - none of them were as big or as usable as I thought they would be (one I purchased as a gift, two to wear) - they are really all too fragile to wear very often, but they make me smile.
I have received one item of clothing, an Eileen Fisher linen duster. Exactly as shown, in great condition, and purchased one size down to give me something to work towards. I have never bought "pre-used" clothing before, but buying designer wear on ebay is a very different story than browsing through the racks at Value Village (which I don't have the patience for). Clean, well cared for, and not smelly...
Still waiting for several other items and the lovely necklace I posted an image of last week.
So, the verdict? Ebay is great fun, and there are deals to be had...as long as you know your limit and play within it.
In the meantime, I have to go, one of the items I have a bid on is ending soon, and I want to watch the action...
